Privacy policy.
Larkin turns your conversations into notes and insights. That means it handles some of the most personal things you say. This page explains what we collect, where it goes, how long we keep it, and what you control.
The short version
- Larkin records only when you start it on your Watch, and you can stop it any time.
- Audio is used to make a transcript, then deleted. We keep the words, not the recordings.
- Your transcripts, notes and insights are private to your account. We don’t sell them, advertise with them, or use them to train AI models.
- We use a few service providers to run Larkin: Supabase (storage), Deepgram (transcription), OpenAI (notes and insights) and PostHog (usage counts, never conversation content).
- You can delete your account in the app. That removes your account, transcripts, notes and stored audio from our servers.
- The people around you may be recorded too. Tell them, and stop when they ask.
Who we are
Larkin is operated by Julien Nérée, its founder (“Larkin”, “we”, “us”), ahead of forming a company. When a company takes over, we’ll update this page and tell you before anything changes. For anything about this policy or your data, write to support@getlarkin.com.
Larkin is in beta. The app, and this policy, will change as we learn. We’ll tell you about important changes before they apply.
What we collect
Your account
You sign in with Apple. Apple gives us an account identifier and, if you allow it, your name and an email address (which may be an Apple private relay address). You also tell the app the name you’d like Larkin to use.
Your conversations
- Audio. While you’re recording, your Apple Watch captures audio in one-minute pieces. Pieces with no speech may be skipped on the Watch. The rest are sent to our servers, through your iPhone or directly from the Watch, to be transcribed.
- Transcripts. The text of what was said, with times. Transcripts stay in your account.
- What Larkin writes from them. Conversation notes, day summaries, to-dos, insights about how you communicate, your communication report and focus, and suggested facts about you.
- What you add. Facts you confirm or correct, questions you ask Larkin, and feedback on insights.
Usage and technical information
- Usage counts. Which screens and features are used, onboarding steps, and counts and durations such as minutes captured or conversations in a day. These go to PostHog, linked to your account identifier. They never include audio, transcripts, notes, titles, quotes, chat messages or names.
- App and device details needed to deliver recordings, such as app version, delivery status and error states.
- Diagnostics you choose to send. Settings › Diagnostics can export a report about how your recordings reached Larkin. It’s only sent if you share it.
When you contact us
If you write to us by email, WhatsApp or Telegram, we receive your message and contact details. WhatsApp and Telegram handle those messages under their own privacy policies.
On getlarkin.com
Our website uses the Meta Pixel to measure visits from our ads. If you reserve a Larkin, payment is handled by Stripe; we receive your order details and email, not your card number.
How we use it
- To turn your recordings into transcripts, notes, summaries and insights, and to show them to you.
- To answer your questions in “Ask Larkin”, using the conversations you ask about.
- To publish notes you choose to share, and stop them when you ask.
- To keep Larkin working: delivering recordings, fixing problems, preventing abuse and keeping accounts secure.
- To understand, from usage counts, which parts of Larkin are useful, so we can improve it.
- To reply when you contact us.
We don’t sell your data. We don’t use your conversations for advertising. We don’t use your conversations to train AI models, and our providers don’t either (see below).
The people around you
Larkin’s microphone hears everyone nearby, so other people’s words can end up in your transcripts and notes. Larkin doesn’t identify other people, doesn’t build profiles of them, and doesn’t send voice prints off your phone. Its insights are about you.
You’re responsible for using Larkin lawfully: tell people you’re recording, respect requests to stop, and follow the recording rules where you are. If someone asks you to remove a conversation they were part of, you can delete it in the app or contact us for help.
Who processes your data
We use these providers to run Larkin. They process data on our instructions and under contracts with us.
| Provider | What for | What they receive | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts, database and temporary audio storage | Your account, audio until it’s transcribed, transcripts and shared notes | Singapore |
| Deepgram | Speech to text | Audio, one minute at a time | United States |
| OpenAI | Writing notes, summaries, insights and answers | Transcripts and the context needed for each request | United States |
| PostHog | Usage counts | Your account identifier and usage events, never conversation content | United States |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, app delivery (TestFlight), crash reports you agree to share | As set out in Apple’s policies | Worldwide |
AI training. Our requests to Deepgram opt out of model improvement. OpenAI doesn’t use API data to train its models, and we send requests with storage turned off. Both providers may keep limited logs for a short time for safety and abuse monitoring, under their own policies.
International transfers. Your data is processed in Singapore and the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as contractual protections, for these transfers.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety, or as part of a sale or reorganisation of Larkin, in which case this policy continues to apply.
Where it’s kept, and for how long
| Data | Kept |
|---|---|
| Audio on your Watch | Until it’s confirmed delivered, then deleted. |
| Audio on our servers | Until its transcript has reached your phone, then deleted. Being offline or a failed cleanup can delay this; we’re adding a server-side deadline. |
| Transcripts | In your account until you delete your account. |
| Daily recaps and topic summaries | In your account until you delete your account. |
| Conversation notes, insights, facts and Ask Larkin chats | On your iPhone. Our servers write them on request and don’t keep them afterwards. |
| Shared notes | Until you stop sharing them or delete your account. |
| Usage counts | In PostHog for as long as they’re useful for improving Larkin, or until you ask us to delete them. |
| Messages to support | As long as needed to help you, then deleted. |
In the current beta, removing a single conversation from your journal hides it but doesn’t erase its transcript from our servers. Deleting your account erases everything listed above that we hold.
Your choices and rights
- Stop recording any time from the Watch.
- Review facts Larkin suggests about you, and confirm, correct or reject them.
- Stop sharing any shared note.
- Delete your account in Settings › Account. This deletes your account, transcripts, shared notes and stored audio from our servers straight away, and clears Larkin’s data from your iPhone the next time you open the app. Audio still waiting on your Watch is no longer uploaded.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete your usage counts, or to stop a particular use, by writing to support@getlarkin.com. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or Singapore’s PDPA, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
We’ll answer within 30 days.
Security
Data travels encrypted. Each account can only reach its own data, enforced by the database itself. Recordings are uploaded with short-lived, account-specific permissions. Our providers encrypt stored data. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we’ll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Age
Larkin is for people aged 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child is using Larkin, contact us and we’ll delete their account.
Changes
When we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. For important changes, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before they apply.
